Ban des Vendanges de St-Emilion usually takes place on the third Sunday in September, marking the beginning of grape picking at all the major chateaux in the region. From the top of the 13th century King's Tower in Saint-Emilion, a jury officially announces the start of the grape-picking season. A procession moves through the town and a solemn mass is held, followed by wine tastings and ceremonial memberships to the Eglise Collégiale cloister fellowship.
